Cologne Germany

Also known as Köln in the native German, Cologne is a travel hub of Europe and nearly every bus, plane, or train ride makes connections here.

In 1945, Allied forces bombed the entire city to rubble. Every building you see here has been built since then except the massive twin spires of the Cathedral, which they left standing in order to use its steeples for navigational purposes.

It's pretty hard to miss, rising up mightily from the bustling Christmas Markets. It is equally beautiful inside, but we weren't allowed very far in because mass was taking place.

Since its rebuilding, Cologne has embraced its German architectural ancestry with pastel colored shops and buildings like these.

Super cute and bright, they line the narrow streets where locals and tourists (like us) wander to the Christmas Markets.

The Christmas markets of Germany are truly fantastic. They even got me in the Christmas spirit! Although that may have been the mulled wine...

At one such market stall, I discovered a treat--every girl needs a cozy hat with her name on it! Bergen is actually German and Dutch for Mountain, so if you think about it the brand name of the hat is a bit generic. But I couldn't pass it up!

10/10 would go to Cologne again!!!
